The Color Purple

Anyone who knows me, know that I am a person, completely turned on by color. I find it extremely difficult to walk past those gorgeous, monochromatic, seasonal product displays at Target without picking something up and cradling it in my arms as I walk around the store trying to remember what it was that I actually needed. I find to wear a super cute top that's a spectacular shade of green without wearing every other article of clothing I have of the same hue (socks, stockings, ponytail holder, shoes, necklace and matching earrings, a skirt, perhaps) equally distressing. So, I decided to start a conversation about color.
Do you have a story or idiosycracy dealing with a particular color? I'd love to hear it.

Yesterday, I read an interesting article about the origins of purple dye. It talks about the original, Murex purple dye that is extracted from shellfish. http://www.jolique.com/dyes_colorants/purple_passion.htm The process for cultivating this dye was so difficult and costly, that only the most wealthy people could afford to have clothes of that hue. What's even more interesting to me is that, although in modern times we can get purple dye from a number of different sources (some of them natural and some synthetic) we still carry this notion that purple symbolizes wealth, royalty and power. http://www.dreamhomedecorating.com/psychological-effects-color-purple.html In fact, when I design and create jewelry, one of my favorite pairings is purple and yellow/gold! Not only, do they naturally compliment each other but, they also have a powerful effect together that denotes formality and luxury that's had to deny.

What do you think? Is purple luxurious and opulent? Or, is it garish and outdated? What are any preconcieved notions about different shades of purple? I'm very motivated by curiousity, you see. We are in this together.

Until next time...
Peace & Positivity,
Becky
